Storm Control

I painted this in July at Ignite, my church’s worship night.

In the middle of the storm
You’re my steady anchor
When the waves crash and form
Your presence is my tether

So here I stand arms wide in surrender
Knowing you never withhold a treasure
Your promise is true
Working all things for good
Lord, I’m chasing after you

I’m fighting the urge to reach for control
Anxious to grasp what the future will hold
Your mighty hand surrounds me
More powerful than this raging sea

But here I stand arms wide in surrender
Knowing you never withhold a treasure
Your promise is true
Working all things for good
Lord, I’m chasing after you

These words came to me as I was riding my bike, reflecting on life and the posture of my heart. In the past, my default has been to grasp for the reigns when life gets bumpy. I try to do everything in my power to orchestrate my desired outcome or what I thought was best. As I have been pressing into a season of waiting and preparation, I am quicker to catch myself when I try to take back control. It has been so freeing to relinquish control of my life to God. Listening and doing my part, and letting Him take care of the rest.

When I wrote this, I thought it was fitting for this painting I did in July at my church’s worship night.
